Side Scroller Design

shroomes (possible char. designs).png

This was an assignment for a digital painting class where we designed assets for a side scroller game.

Here is my initial idea generation/planning. I had been on many canoe trips that summer and wanted to create something inspired by the forest I spent so much time exploring.

After solidifying my design ideas, I did some colour tests.

Here are the final products! The photoshop file for the background contains layers that scroll at different rates to imitate parallax, so I've included two views (at different screen sizes).

NPC Character Design

For my character design class, I decided to design 3 non-player characters (NPCs) for the Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) campaign that I had been writing. The main character, Arson, is the main villain, and the other two characters are their accomplices.

These are my idea generation sketches, figuring out what shape language and other details worked best for the characters I wanted to create.

Here are some turnarounds I did after deciding on Arson's design ->
